In Catalonia, this refers to the registration number of the establishment or tourist accommodation (Habitatge d'Ús Turístic in Catalan). It is like the license plate of your accommodation; it is mandatory to be able to rent and publish it online. It is a unique code assigned to each establishment that proves it is registered and complies with the standards and regulations set by the tourist authorities.

What is a tourist accommodation? It is a property that owners make available, either directly or through an agency like ours, Unico Costa Brava, in exchange for payment, for a stay of 31 days or less.

How do I obtain the HUT number? You must request a number from the local municipality where the accommodation is located. The municipality provides it after payment and subject to availability, in order to obtain the license for the property’s tourist use.

At Unico Costa Brava, we handle the necessary paperwork for the apartments and houses the agency rents out, saving owners—especially foreign owners who don't speak the language—time and administrative concerns.

Will I have to pay taxes? Renting your accommodation obviously involves paying certain mandatory taxes, such as the Tourist Tax or income tax, whether the owner is a resident or non-resident of the rental apartment or house.

Unico Costa Brava also takes care of filing the Tourist Tax on behalf of the property owners we manage, and can help them prepare the paperwork for their income tax returns through a tax advisor.
